WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) – A suspect is in custody after a domestic incident led to a police chase Tuesday morning.
Officers were initially called to a home for a report of a domestic disturbance. The suspect fled the scene and was later pulled over in Portage County.
The suspect also fled that incident, going back into the city of Wisconsin Rapids via Highway 54. That’s where the police pursuit began.
During the pursuit the suspect fired multiple gunshots at officers. Their vehicle was eventually disabled near 8th Street and East Grand Avenue.
A police drone found the suspect on top of a nearby building. When confronted by officers, the suspect fired at them again. Police returned fire and injured the suspect, who is now hospitalized.
Officers say there is no risk to the public. There are multiple crime scenes that the public is asked to avoid as the investigation continues.
