MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A sex offender who was caught on school grounds in the Northwoods will spend a decade behind bars.
Matthew Kummer, 49, 0f Minocqua was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison on Thursday by U.S. District Judge William Conley. Kummer was sentenced for a charge of possessing child pornography from an October 27th, 2019 search of his home.
On that day officers executed a search warrant at Kummer’s home and seized laptops, hard drives, and miscellaneous storage devices. On those devices, officers found over 17,000 images of child pornography. Officers also found videos Kummer had secretly taken of children in swimsuits at parks, beaches, and amusement parks.
Due to the number of images found on Kummer’s devices and his prior child pornography conviction, Judge Conley arrived at a 10-year federal prison sentence. Kummer will also serve 15 years of supervised release after his term of imprisonment.
The charge against Kummer was the result of an investigation conducted by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and Rhinelander, Minocqua, and Woodruff Police Departments.
