GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – As the Packers return to practice this week to prepare to face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, the team is remaining optimistic that quarterback Jordan Love will return to the field sooner than later.
According to head coach Matt LaFleur, who spoke to the media on Monday night, Love will not be placed on short-term IR that would require him to miss at least four games, and the door isn’t closed on him possibly being active on Sunday, saying, “If Jordan is not cleared, then we’ll start Malik (Willis), and Sean (Clifford) will be the backup.”
Love’s chances of playing are uncertain, but LaFleur stated that he is trying “everything in his power” to return as soon as possible.
When asked about Willis’ progression throughout the last two weeks and if he feels Willis would give the team the best chance to win LaFleur said, “He’s put a lot of time and effort into this thing. He’s grinded. He’s learned the terminology and is able to spit out the playcalls and we’ve got confidence in him. I think if he’s given a full week of preparation, a full week of practice, I’ve got confidence that he’ll go out there and perform at a high level.”
In 12 games over his career, Willis—who was acquired on August 26th from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a seventh-round pick—has thrown for 350 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions.
