MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers will be without their top-ranked transfer quarterback Tyler Van Dyke for the remainder of the season after he suffered a knee injury against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.
According to sources who spoke to ESPN, Van Dyke had an MRI done on his knee on Sunday morning, which showed that he suffered a full ACL tear in his right knee. There is no timetable for his recovery, but he will not be returning this season.
When Van Dyke tried to run for a first down on the seventh play of the Badgers’ loss to the Crimson Tide, he was tackled, causing him to reach for his knee before being taken to the locker room for more testing.
When head coach Luke Fickell was asked about Van Dyke’s injury after the game on Saturday, he said, “I don’t think it looks real good for us or for him, and that’s really, really difficult because I think that he was really well-prepared and he had grown in those first few weeks and was really sharp to start that game.”
After attending Miami (Fla.) for four seasons, Van Dyke transferred to Wisconsin this spring. He suffered from injuries during his three seasons as the Hurricanes starter, and redshirt sophomore Braedyn Locke is anticipated to take his place for the rest of the season.
