MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) – Nearly two dozen workers with the Wisconsin Municipal Utilities from across the state will be heading down to Florida this week to assist with the cleanup efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
According to a press release from Marshfield Utilities, two Marshfield Utilities Lineworkers are joining a crew of 22 other Wisconsin Municipal Utilities that will depart from South Beloit, IL, and travel to Kissimmee, Florida, where they will assist Kissimmee Utility Authority with power restoration after Hurricane Milton. Crews are expected to arrive in central Florida by mid-day Thursday.
Mutual aid from all Wisconsin crews has been arranged by Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW). They will be joining teams dedicated to the mutual aid response from 16 states, including Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota. Mutual help responders should prepare to be needed for up to two weeks, according to the organizers.
Hurricane Milton has already caused over 48,000 homes and businesses to lose power and is expected to make landfall late Wednesday evening while bringing a storm surge of 10 to 15 feet along with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.
