MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Elections Commission says they are aware of more delays in the system used to print absentee certificate envelope labels.
Officials say they ran a system update Wednesday evening in an attempt to correct the issue, though some local Clerks are still reporting delays in label printing time.
“Every other function of the system that clerks use to print is working optimally. At this time, there is no reason to believe this is affecting other areas of election administration or state government, nor is there any reason to believe the printing delays were caused by a cyberattack,” read a statement from the Commission.
The Commission also notes that a printed label is not a requirement for an absentee ballot envelope, but rather a time-saving tool for local election officials. Envelopes with hand-written data are still acceptable and were standard practice before the 2020 election.
“Label printing is a newer and optional efficiency, but not critical to the administration of in-person absentee voting. Municipal clerks continue to report high levels of in-person absentee voting. No voters should be turned away due to label printing delays. The WEC is thankful to local election officials for their patience and professionalism while agency staff continue to work to improve label printing speed,” added the Commission.
