WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marathon County woman will serve 15 years in the state prison system for providing the drugs that led to an overdose death back in July of 2021.
Lyndy Lucas will serve seven and a half years in prison and another 7.5 years on extended supervision, according to a sentence handed down by Judge Suzanne O’Neill on Thursday. Terms of the sentence also include the completion of all treatment or assessments and absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol.
The sentence was part of a plea deal that saw her admit guilt to one count of reckless homicide by delivery of drugs, possession of narcotics, and battery or threats against a judge or law enforcement officer. Six additional counts were dismissed but read into the record, meaning Lucas would not be sentenced for them but the judge could consider them when handing down the sentence.
The 41-year-old victim, who was not identified, was found in a Kronenwetter home with evidence of drug use next to him including a spoon and a substance that tested positive for narcotics. The Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force was able to trace the drugs back to Lucas, who was a “known dealer” in the area.
Lucas, 43, had been facing up to 40 years in prison on the reckless homicide count alone. She previously pled not guilty to the charges and was scheduled for trial last March.
