MANITOWOC, WI (WSAU) – On Monday, Elijah Vue’s mother’s boyfriend returned to court to enter a plea to charges related to the boy’s death.
Jesse Vang, 40, was arrested after the 3-year-old disappeared in the town of Two Rivers in February of this year and is being held on a $500,000 bond. He entered a plea of not guilty to charges of physical abuse of a child—repeated acts causing death; hiding a corpse; and resisting/obstructing an officer—when he appeared in the Manitowoc County courtroom on Monday morning.
Vang was seen on camera leaving a suitcase on the ground close to St. Vincent de Paul on February 19, the day before he reported Vue’s disappearance, according to investigators. Saliva that was positively identified to belong to Elijah was discovered inside the luggage when the police recovered it. His death was determined to be homicide by undetermined means by the Manitowoc County medical examiner.
Vang’s next trial date was not specified during his appearance, and prosecutors can offer Vang a plea deal until February 7. As it currently stands, a scheduling conference on March 13 will be his next court date.
