NEW YORK, NY (WSAU) – The New York Jets are reportedly looking to move on from future Packers Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers as the team continues to struggle to win games this season.
According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, following the team’s firing of general manager Joe Douglas, the Jets also “prefer to move on from Aaron Rodgers, too,” after the Packers traded him to New York last April to start the Jordan Love era in Green Bay.
Rodgers is in his first year back from a torn Achilles that cost him the entire 2023 season. The soon-to-be 41-year-old has struggled to get the offense going as the Jets enter their bye week with a 3-8 record. He’s thrown for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 63.4 percent of his passes so far this season.
The Packers received a 2023 first-round pick (13th overall), which turned into pass rusher Lukas Van Ness, a 2023 second-round pick (42nd overall), which turned into tight end Luke Musgrave, a 2024 conditional pick, which became linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, and a 2023 sixth-round pick (207th overall), which turned into kicker Anders Carlson in the deal that sent Rodgers to the Jets.
Rodgers told the media during a press conference last week that he’d like to continue playing next season, and if the Jets were to trade or release him, New York would take on up to $49 million in dead money against the salary cap.
