WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Kennedy Park in Weston will look a little different in a few years.
Representatives from youth sports leagues and the village met earlier this fall to break ground on a new $14 million project including a new baseball/softball complex and expanded skate park. Weston Administrator Jami Gebert says the project’s centerpiece is five baseball and softball diamonds surrounding a central bathroom and concessions area.
“It is a major renovation to our central Village Park,” said Gebert. “Now that we’ve broken ground we are kicking off the capital campaign in partnership with the [user] groups.”
The project also includes parking, outdoor skating rinks in the winter, and a small expansion of the skate park. Gebert says the work will be done in phases so the park is never completely closed to users. “It is a multi-phase project that will take several years. We never wanted to have the park totally closed. We wanted to make sure there was always an opportunity for youth sports [to use the park.]”
Donations for the project are being taken through the Friends of Kennedy Park fund at the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. Information on how to donate can be found here.
Other topics Gebert discussed with WSAU’s Mike Leischner include:
Start of video- election turnout
3:00- New Trustee Joe Jordan
4:35- SAFER pay-per-call program for first responders
6:35- Kennedy Park project
