MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – They are ready to kick off the holiday season in Marshfield at the Wildwood Park & Zoo.
The light show will run every day from Black Friday to December 31st
While they don’t have an exact number, visitors can expect anywhere from 1,5000,000 to 2,000,000 lights set up across the zoo.
The event raises money and canned foods to donate to 33 different local food pantries. Carter Grove, Steering committee, said, “Just simply to see the happiness of people that come through and see the lights. I mean yes we’re doing great things for the community, but it’s a sense of pride for us to see people want to come back every year and ask are you doing it? What is going to be new? People come back looking forward to it every year.”
The show takes six weeks to put together, and many different groups and volunteers to make it all happen.
Danielle Nystrom, Steering Committee, said, “We do a lot of outreach to businesses and volunteer groups in our community so I would say there’s well over 200 people that set this thing up every year and then we also have volunteers that run the food collection when we’re open so another 45 groups help us man the operation when the season happens.”
Opening night there is free hot chocolate and Santa flips the switch to turn on the lights.
