STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Marathon County man has been sentenced to prison time for his role in the beating death of a Stevens Point man last winter.
Arlin Sangster will serve 20 years in state prison and five years on extended supervision after he was found guilty of reckless homicide in the beating death of Donald Mitchell Jr.
The sentence was handed down Tuesday morning. Records show three victim impact statements were read into the record. The 20-year-old also addressed the court before Judge Louis Molepske’s decision.
Sangster had been facing up to 46 years in prison for the charge; 40 years for the felony count and another six due to the victim’s age.

Mitchell was found beaten in a Stevens Point parking lot back in March. He was rushed to a nearby hospital before being airlifted to Wausau, where he died the next day. Investigators found that he was beaten by a group of men who were rummaging through his vehicle looking to steal items of value.
Sangster was one of three men charged in connection with Mitchell’s death. Brandon Boehm will appear for a scheduling conference on December 16th. Christian Emerson is scheduled for a week-long trial beginning January 27th.
Judge Molepske gave Sangster credit for time already served in jail while awaiting trial and sentencing. Details of the sentence also include a full no-contact order with the victim’s family including those who provided victim impact statements. He will also have a no-contact order with Boehm and Emerson and must pay fines and court costs.
