GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Both wide receiver Sterling Sharpe and former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Holmgren were named on Tuesday as one of the five finalists for the 2025 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In order to be honored, Holmgren and Sharpe, who were together for three seasons in Green Bay, must receive at least 80 percent of the Selection Committee’s vote, according to the Hall of Fame. The vote is scheduled for February, during Super Bowl week.
In his seven seasons as coach, Holmgren guided the Packers to six postseason appearances, three NFC Central titles, three NFC Championship Game appearances, and back-to-back Super Bowls. After the 1996 season, the Packers won Super Bowl XXXI, ending their 29-year title drought.
During his seven seasons with the Packers (1988-94), Sharpe was selected to the first team All-Pro three times and was a five-time Pro Bowler. Sharpe, a South Carolina native selected in the first round of the 1992 NFL Draft, set the previous record for the most receptions in a season with 108 and then broke it the following year with 112.
As it currently stands, 28 Packers players are inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and would rise to 30 if both Holmgren and Sharpe were elected.
