WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Economic Development Committee heard an update from Assistant City Planner Andrew Lynch regarding parking at Atheltic Park.
Lynch says the city is exploring two options for paved lots near the ballpark, including one at the Wausau Chemical site and one at the Nelson-Miller site just beyond the outfield wall. Lynch says no matter which site is chosen the city will likely spend most of 2025 in the planning stages.
“There are details to figure out [from] environmental concerns to land ownership. Even creating access or can we purchase enough land,” said Lynch. “We are proceeding slowly but as 20-25 goes on we should have a better idea of where that will land.”
The city must add 150 permanent parking spots around Athletic Park as part of a development agreement with the Wausau Woodchucks ownership group. Lynch says they also want the lot to serve the greater riverfront area, including current developments and anything that might come up in the next ten years. “When we put public dollars into infrastructure, you want it in the right place the first time, you try to do it right the first time so you don’t have to move it or change it in the future.”
If all goes as planned construction could begin in the summer of 2026.
Plans are also in motion for ADA and bike parking lot near the home plate gate. Lynch says that likely won’t be ready for the 2025 season but could be online by ’26.
