WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – On Wednesday, three Army soldiers assisted in removing an ice fisherman from the Wisconsin River.
The three were ice fishing when they witnessed another fisherman fall through the ice, according to a statement from U.S. Army Public Affairs.
They crawled closer to the man and knotted their jackets together to help him get out of the ice. After removing him from the ice, the troops called 911.
The soldiers who saved the local fisherman were Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Deeren, Staff Sgt. Matthew Jones, and Staff Sgt. Steven Vest. The soldiers are stationed in Wausau as Army recruiters, offering full and part-time work possibilities to students in central Wisconsin.
