MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A 40-year-old Wausau man will spend 12.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to federal cocaine and methamphetamine charges.
Quo Vadis Lewis was sentenced in US District Court on January 3rd. He pled guilty to the charges last fall, including conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of meth and cocaine as well as possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
The investigation against Lewis dates back to 2021 when investigators received a tip from an informant naming him as the leader of a large distribution ring. The investigation involved controlled purchases, the seizure of packages, and a raid on Lewis’ home.
In one instance, the US Postal Service intercepted an 11-pound package addressed to Lewis which contained 10 pounds of meth. Firearms, extended magazines, and ammunition were also seized from his home.
US District Judge William Conley noted that Lewis played a key role as a leader of a drug trafficking organization involved with “incredible” quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine. Judge Conley determined that a significant sentence for Lewis was necessary to protect the public.
Numerous agencies were involved in the investigation including police from Wausau, Mountain Bay Metro, and the Wisconsin State Patrol. Sheriff’s Officers from Marathon, Portage, and Lincoln County were also involved.
Eight others were also charged in connection with this drug trafficking organization. Teala L. Kumbera was convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine and sentenced on November 14, 2024, to 54 months in federal prison. Shandel L. Mohr was convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine and sentenced on December 3, 2024, to 12 months and 1 day in federal prison. Tommie Haney, Edwin Lewis, Craig C. Gates, and Troy A. Olsen have all pleaded guilty and are scheduled to be sentenced in the coming months. Samuel A. Teague is scheduled to enter a guilty plea on January 6, 2025, and Shelby Gutch is scheduled to enter a guilty plea on January 7, 2025.
