COOPERSTOWN, NY (WSAU) — One of the most durable left-handed pitchers of the early 2000s has been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
CC Sabathia, who went 11-2 with Milwaukee in 2008, will be inducted as part of the Class of 2025 this summer.
Milwaukee acquired CC in a trade on July 8th, 2008, sending four players to Cleveland including Matt LaPorta and Michael Brantley.
The Brewers, knowing they had little chance to resign Sabathia on the open market, rode him to a 90-72 finish and an appearance in the NLDS as a Wild Card. He made 17 starts for the Brewers with seven complete games and three shutouts.
It was Milwaukee’s first Postseason appearance since 1982.
Sabathia would go on to sign with the New York Yankees. He spent the next ten years in the Bronx before retiring in 2019.
He finished his career with 251 wins and an ERA of 3.74, striking out 3,093 batters over 3,577 innings.
Joining Sabathia in the Class of 2025 are Japanese OF Ichiro Suzuki and closer Bobby Wagner. Ichiro was a near-unanimous selection with 99.7% of the vote (393 of 394 submitted ballots). Sabathia was named on just over 86% of the ballots. Wagner, who was in his last year of eligibility, earned 82% of the vote.
Players must be named on 75% of ballots to earn induction. Those who earn less than 5% of the vote will drop off the ballot. This year there will be ten of those including another former Brewers rental player, Curtis Granderson. Milwaukee picked him up midway through the 2018 season in a deal with Toronto.
Granderson was named on just three ballots, giving him 0.8% of the vote.
