MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — The Merrill Fire Department was called to a vehicle fire at 2:30 Tuesday morning, just as the flames had spread to a nearby ice shanty and garage.
The homeowner had just gotten up to investigate a noise outside when they found the vehicle burning. They called for help and managed to get everyone outside.
Firefighters knocked down the flames and kept them from spreading into the attached home, which remains livable. The vehicle and ice shanty were destroyed, but firefighters believe the garage is repairable.
“Had the fire continued to burn unnoticed, the loss of property and possibly life could have been much different,” noted firefighters in a press release.
The cause of the fire is unknown; foul play is not suspected. No one was injured in the incident.
