MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A report of an erratic driver on US Highway 51 led to an OWI arrest in Lincoln County last Friday.
Officers said they received a call from a concerned person regarding a northbound vehicle weaving back and forth across the center line and didn’t have working tail lights.
A squad car caught up to the vehicle near mile marker 225 north of Merrill and observed the same behavior. They initiated a traffic stop and immediately noticed signs of impairment in the driver, a 71-year-old Minocqua man.
The driver then failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody for a second offense OWI and possession of an open intoxicant.
The man’s name was not released. Court action against him is pending.
