RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) — There will be no criminal charges filed in connection with a police pursuit that led to the death of 28-year-old Matthew Johnson in Oneida County.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice closed the investigation into the incident last week, announcing that Oneida County District Attorney Jillian Pfeifer would not pursue charges.
Johnson was killed in a head-on crash in mid-January after officers attempted to pull him over for a routine traffic stop. Johnson sped off, leading to a pursuit that ended when his vehicle drifted across the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
Johnson died at the scene. All six passengers in the second vehicle sustained injuries but survived.
