ANTIGO, WI (WSAU) – A World War Two veteran who will celebrate his birthday later this month is hoping to receive a lot of mail in the coming days.
According to a post on Facebook from Operation First Response, they are having a “Call to Action” for WWII veteran Rueben Kolpack, who will be turning 104 years old on March 19th, and are asking anyone around the state who can send him a birthday card before the big day.
“Rueben served our country with bravery, and now, it’s our turn to show him how much he is loved, appreciated, and never forgotten. Imagine the joy and gratitude he will feel when he receives a flood of birthday cards from all across the nation—from YOU,” the post read.
“A simple card with heartfelt words can mean the world to this hero. Let’s come together as a nation and make his day truly special,” the post continued.
According to the Library of Congress, Kolpack, who is a father of six and lost his wife Lucille last March, was a member of the 78th Armored Field Artillery, 2nd Armored Division during the war and was the recipient of the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the Purple Heart, the African/European Medal, the Victory Medal, and a Belgian medal on the recommendation of the French government.
The cards can be addressed to Jan Spurgeon at PO Box 336 in Antigo, WI 54409.
