WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – The X app is currently down for countless users worldwide, and CEO Elon Musk says the social media platform is a victim of a cyberattack by an unknown entity.
According to a statement by Musk, there was “a massive cyberattack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and a country is involved,” and that his team is “tracing” the source of the attack.
Users began reporting troubles at around 6 am Eastern, and the number of reports peaked at about 21,000, according to Downdetector, which collects data from users who report outages on various services. Problems seemed to be fixed until around ten in the morning, when more than 40,000 people reported problems again. Over 35,000 customers reported problems during the most recent surge, which started at roughly 11 a.m.
