
MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers are moving on in the Big Ten men’s tournament after defeating the Northwestern Wildcats 70-63 on Thursday afternoon.
The Badgers were led by guard Jon Tonje, scoring 18 points and collecting seven rebounds, while forward Nolen Winter added 18 points of his own and brought in six rebounds.
Wisconsin shot just 32% from three-point range as a team but was able to pull away in the second half after collecting eight steals and forcing 14 total turnovers. They will move on to face the UCLA Bruins on Friday at 1:30 p.m. on WSAU.
Meanwhile, the Marquette Golden Eagles won an 89-87 thriller against the Xavier Musketeers to advance in the Big East tournament. Star point guard Kam Jones had a big day scoring 28 points and dishing out five assists, while fellow guard Stevie Mitchell scored 16 points and recorded five steals.
Despite allowing the Musketeers to shoot 47.8% from behind the arc, the Golden Eagles were able to shoot a red-hot 42.4% from deep with Kam Jones hitting five threes on his own.
The Golden Eagles will face top seed St. Johns Red Storm on Friday night with tip-off on Fox scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
