GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers are getting a closer look at one of the draft’s top defensive linemen prospects.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber, South Carolina defensive tackle and projected 2nd-round pick T.J. Sanders visited the Packers over the weekend for an official Top 30 visit, adding another pass rusher to their official visits list.
Sanders, who was a three-star recruit in 2021, was named Third-Team All-SEC in 2023 and First-Team All-SEC in 2024 after recording four sacks and 29 tackles for the Gamecocks this past season.
Sanders will join fellow SEC pass rushers Mykel Williams and Shemar Stewart to officially visit the Packers, but the Packers have also hosted Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden and East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel, so what they plan to do at 23rd overall remains a big question coming into draft day.
The Packers lost T.J. Slaton to the Cincinnati Bengals during free agency, and Sanders has the ability to step in next to Kenny Clark right away due to his ability to get around offensive linemen to get after the quarterback, but after weighing in at just 290 lbs. at the combine, some scouts project that Sanders may be better suited as a defensive end in the NFL, which could be an issue for the Packers due to Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden putting up solid numbers in recent years.
