MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The first NL Central rivalry showdown between the Cubs and Brewers went to the south siders in a big way.
Brewers starter Tyler Alexander recorded just two outs and surrendered three hits and two earned runs as the Cubs scored a 10-0 victory on Friday.
Chicago extended the lead to 9-0 after two on a grand slam by Michael Busch, his sixth homer of the year, and a solo tater from Pete Crow-Armstrong. All those runs came off Quinn Priester, who pitched 4.1 innings in relief.
The Brewers recorded five hits on the night, all singles, and worked just two walks. Cubs starter Ben Brown gave up just four hits and struck out four in six innings. Reliever Chris Flexen earned the three-inning save by pitching effectively to close out the game, allowing just one additional hit and three total baserunners.
The same two teams will play again tonight at American Family Field. Pregame coverage on WSAU begins at 5:35, with first pitch after 6 PM.
