The Wausau Human Resources Committee will debate operating hours for City Hall on Monday.
City leaders want more feedback on reduced Friday hours after a 2024 pilot study showed a better work-life balance and morale without interrupting services. They’d like to conduct another study this summer before a final decision is made.
According to Monday’s agenda packet, the committee will consider three options: opening from 7:15 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 7:15 to 12:15 on Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to Noon on Friday, and 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday with the building closing at noon but staff still available to answer phones through 4:30.
The last method is currently in place in the city of Eau Claire. Option 1 mirrors hours for several area municipalities, including Rothschild and Kronenwetter.
The issue was discussed at length during a previous HR Committee meeting in April, with some Alders saying the reduced hours would better reflect how business is conducted in this day and age. Others said having City Hall closed during the traditional Friday workday is unacceptable.
Monday’s meeting begins at 4:45 at City Hall.
