MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau woman is facing numerous traffic citations and an OWI charge after a multi-county high-speed chase last week.
It started when officers clocked a vehicle going 84 MPH in a 65 MPH zone along Highway 51 in Lincoln County on Thursday, May 8th. When they tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver sped up to 115 MPH and led officers on a chase into Marathon County.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Chardaye Magee, exited the freeway at County Road WW, where she lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Magee was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by emergency crews.
She was treated and released at a Wausau hospital, then taken to the Lincoln County Jail.
Citations against her include operating left of center, excessive speeding, and unsafe lane deviation. Officials later learned that she had an outstanding warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft of movable property.
She’s due to return to court in Marathon County on June 9th.
