STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A former Stevens Point EMT facing three counts of second-degree sexual assault has pleaded no contest as part of a deal.
Mark Schoeberle entered a plea for two of the counts on Tuesday. A judge then found him guilty and ordered a presentence investigation.
Charges stem from an incident that occurred while Schoberle was working for Aspirus Hospital in Stevens Point. According to a patient, he made lewd comments towards her and groped her while she was receiving care at the facility.
The incident occurred in June of 2024. Aspirus released a statement shortly after the accusations came to light, saying he was “immediately removed from all employment duties.”
Schoberle also worked as an EMT with the Stevens Point Fire Department for many years before retiring in the fall of 2023.
As part of the deal, one count of second-degree sexual assault was dismissed but read into the record, meaning it can be considered at sentencing. A second case involving two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree sexual assault was also dismissed but read in.
The 52-year-old will now face up to 80 years in prison for the charges at sentencing on August 1st.
