WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A one-of-a-kind event will be taking place right here in downtown Wausau!
The Central Wisconsin Educational Theater Alliance (CWETA) is producing its first-ever 24-hour musical, with a cast made up of local teenagers. Cast members didn’t find out their roles until yesterday evening and began practicing through the night with little sleep. The event is intended to be a fast-paced challenge, where the cast will rehearse and perform the entire production in just one day.
“It is brutal, it is taxing, it is hard, and nothing like I have ever done before,” said lead actor Terreck Schjoth. “It is just very new, and makes me appreciate how long of a rehearsal process we have for most shows.”
With the production being a first for the cast, it is also the first time that the directors have worked on anything like this. Artistic Director Laurie Maegli has worked on numerous productions in her lifetime, but not something quite like this.
“It is an educational experience, it is very collaborative, we have a lot of adults working on it with us in production staff positions,” said Maegli. “We have an orchestra, really great singers, so the whole thing is coming together really well.”
The collaborative effort is felt by the entire crew. Ayira Broadway, who plays the Narrator, says this experience brings people together and will help her in other productions moving forward.
“It promotes collaboration with a lot of other people, because a lot goes into a big show like this,” said Broadway. “I gives me an opportunity to learn a show very quickly, which I think will help with any other show I have been in.”
The production is a one-night-only performance at Tebo and Tilly’s in Wausau.
