Northwoods League
GRAND FORKS, ND (WSAU) — Multiple reports indicate that the Northwoods League is finalizing plans to add a 6th softball franchise in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that the team will play at Albrecht Field on the campus of the University of North Dakota.
No official announcement has been made from the league office or the local ownership group. But, multiple job listings have been posted for the franchise, including ticket sales and merchandise management, local sponsorship activation, and general manager.
Northwoods League softball launched in 2024 with four teams in La Crosse, Madison, Mankato, and Minot. All four franchises survived the first year of operations, with Wausau bringing the total to 5 for the current season.
Teams currently play a 42-game season from mid-June through early August, with the top two teams meeting in a best-of-three league championship series. Madison has already clinched a spot in this year’s final, with Minot and Mankato positioned to take the second spot.
Wausau are 10-26 with six games remaining, including three against Minot at home this weekend.
