Green Bay Packers
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WSAU) — Three Packers recorded rushing touchdowns as Green Bay turned a 13-3 halftime deficit into a 23-19 preaseason victory on Saturday.
Former Canadian college football star Taylor Elgersma helped lead the second-half comeback, going 7/11 for 109 passing yards. Sean Clifford went 1/4 for 11 yards with one rushing TD.
Amar Johnson and Israel Abanikanda each added a rushing touchdown. Abanikanda led all rushers with 43 yards on 12 carries. Emanuel added 33 yards on five carries, with a long of 11 yards.
Neither team recorded a passing touchdown. Cornelius Johnson led the Packers with three catches for 41 yards on four targets.
The Colts had a chance to win the game in the final 20 seconds when Jason Bean hit Jelani Woods for a 30-yard gain to the Green Bay 1-yard line, but replay review overturned the completion. That resulted in a turnover on downs, allowing Green Bay to run out the clock.
Isaiah Simmons led the defense with nine tackles, five of them solo. Kirstian Welch added eight tackles and a pass breakup.
Mark McNamee handled the kicking duties, going 1/2 on field goals and 2/3 on extra points. The missed field goal was from 39 yards out on the game’s opening drive.
Green Bay is now 1-1 on the preseason and will host Seattle next Saturday, August 23rd, at 3:00 PM. Pregame coverage on WSAU will begin at 1:00 PM.
