WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marathon County woman accused of disorderly conduct, strangulation, and battery will serve probation and jail time as part of a plea deal reached on Thursday.
Terra LaFave pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and no contest to misdemeanor battery. A judge then sentenced her to 30 days in the Marathon County Jail and one year of probation.
The 51-year-old will also complete anger management courses, must maintain absolute sobriety, and will pay fines and restitution.
Investigators say she beat another woman in late May 2024. According to the victim, she had just passed a vehicle that was going under the speed limit on a county road. That vehicle started flashing its headlights and turn signals at her, so she stopped to see if something was wrong.
The driver, identified as LaFave, got out of the car and started beating the victim, punching and choking her until she couldn’t breathe. A witness told officers that he stopped to break up the fight, telling the attacker he had a gun.
LaFave’s sentence also includes a full no contact order with the victim.
