CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – You might be surprised to know that the Holiday Inn in Stevens Point can hold a larger banquet than The White House. The capacity for state dinners at the East Room is 78. Anything bigger than that and the event must be held in the summer, outdoors on the White House lawn, using fancy event tents.
Donlad Trump, who knows something about hosting large events at Mara Lago or at his Bedminster County Club, suggests that the White House needs a new, more modern event space. He raised the money for it privately. And last week a large part of the East Wing was demolished so construction could begin.
The new White House ballroom will be an asset for future presidents.
There are many presidents who’s made permanent changes to the White House. Theodore Roosevelt added the West Wing, now the presidential living quarters. Frankin Roosevelt added an indoor swimming pool. President Truman had the entire interior of the building gutted and modernized over a four year period. Richard Nixon added a bowling alley. Barack Obama added an indoor basketball court.
Now along comes Congressman Eric Swalwell, an unhinged democrat from California. He suggested over the weekend that a litmus test for any democrat who wants to be president is this: tear down the Trump ballroom. He posted on X: ““Don’t even think of seeking the Democratic nomination for president unless you pledge to take a wrecking ball to the Trump Ballroom on DAY ONE.” This is ridiculous.
Yes, this is the same Congressman Swalwell who dated the Chinese spy Fang Fang. He’s a clown. The useful thing about his tear-it-down demand is that it will help the rest of us identify which presidential hopefuls are stupid.
