Justin Wojtalewicz
STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The Amherst man accused of attempted homicide after a shooting incident in the spring of 2024 was handed a split decision after a week-long jury trial.
Justin Wojtalewicz was found guilty of aggravated battery, mayhem, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The jury found him not guilty of the most serious charge, attempted homicide, and recklessly endangering safety through the use of a firearm.
The trial started with jury selection on Monday. Jurors returned a verdict at about 4:30 PM Friday. Court records do not indicate how long they deliberated.
Charges stem from a shooting incident that involved Ryan Wojtalewicz at a home in Amherst last spring. Ryan was hospitalized for a gunshot wound in his leg, but survived the incident.
Justin had faced up to 150 years in prison on all five counts. He’s now facing up to 65 years on three counts, with sentencing scheduled for March 6th, 2026. Both sides will conduct a presentence investigation, with results due in early February. Letters to the court will be due three days before sentencing.
