WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — No one was injured, and multiple pets were saved as crews put out a fire in east central Wausau Tuesday evening.
The fire was reported at about 6:30 PM in the 900 block of Jackson Street. They found visible smoke coming from the building and started an aggressive interior attack.
Crews managed to contain the fire to one room. Five pets, four cats and a dog, were rescued from the building. No firefighters or occupants were injured in the incident.
Investigators say smoking materials caused the fire. A working smoke detector allowed residents to safely evacuate before crews arrived.
