RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Snowmobile enthusiasts can gear up as the Oneida County Funded Snowmobile Trail System is set to open for the winter season at noon on Friday, December 19, 2025. However, riders should be aware of certain advisories before hitting the trails.
Trail 51B, managed by the Northwoods Passage Snowmobile Club, will remain closed until further notice. Additionally, all lake and river trails in the county are deemed unsafe and should not be used until they are marked by a local snowmobile club.
The Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department emphasizes the importance of staying on marked trails. Off-trail riding is considered trespassing and could lead to trail closures and fines.
Riders are advised to exercise caution, as trails are in rough, early-season condition. For specific trail conditions, contact the local snowmobile club or check their social media pages. For more information on snowmobile trail opportunities, reach out to the Oneida County Chamber of Commerce or the Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department.
