WAUPACA, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – On Monday a deputy from the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a collision while managing traffic at a crash scene on U.S. Highway 10. The incident occurred at 5:46am when a speeding SUV struck the deputy’s patrol vehicle from behind.
The deputy, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Theda Care Medical Center of Waupaca for treatment and later released. The SUV driver declined medical attention after being assessed on-site.
The Weyauwega Police Department investigated the crash. The SUV driver received citations for multiple violations, including operating without a valid driver’s license and failing to change lanes near a stopped emergency vehicle.
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office was supported by the Weyauwega Police Department, Fremont-Wolf River Fire Department, and Fremont-Wolf River Ambulance. This incident highlights the importance of moving over or slowing down when passing stopped emergency vehicles.
