WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — With much of Central Wisconsin under a Flood Watch, officials are reminding residents to do their part to keep everyone moving.
Marathon County Public Information Officer Sarah Severson says that means clearing gutter drains near your home or business to keep the street from flooding. “Make sure that they are free of snow and ice so [when] we get rain, it is able to drain and reduce the risk of flooding.”
She says that includes breaking up any chunks of snow that could block the water as well.
If your street does flood, she says you should report it to local law enforcement immediately so they can block it off. And just like in the spring or summer, if you come up to a flooded street while driving, turn around and find another route to your destination.
Steady rain is expected to develop Thursday evening, then change over to Snow by Friday morning. Wausau and Marathon County could see one to two inches; heavier amounts are expected in Northeastern Wisconsin
