ATHENS, WI (WSAU) – The Department of Natural Resources is monitoring a manure spill near Black Creek.
The incident happened last Thursday night, January 15th at a livestock transfer site owned by Deercreek Holsteins LLC in the Town of Athens.
The operators notified the DNR that there was an equipment failure with their transfer system. It discharged manure into a tributary of Black Creek. How much manure was spilled hasn’t been determined.
The DNR and the Marathon County Department of Planning, Zoning, and Conservation were on-site last Friday to monitor the situation. An active clean-up operation is underway.
