WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Weston Village Board agreed to borrow money to help fund a new headquarters for the Mountain Bay Metro Police Department, Monday night.
While the exact amount will depend on the final design, the plan involves the villages of Weston and Rothschild sharing the expenses under a 65-35 split, with Weston borrowing about $4.5 million and Rothschild contributing about $2.5 million.
The Rothschild Village Board approved their part of the measure last week.
The need for the new building is, in part, from the merger of Everest Metro and Rothschild Police to form the Mountain Bay Metro Police Department in 2024.
Building the new headquarters should not directly raise taxes for people living in Weston or Rothschild. The plan is for the money borrowed from both villages to be paid back through Mountain Bay Metro’s regular budget over a span of roughly 30 years.
