Wisconsin Badgers
MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin won the opening tip and quickly drained a pair of three-point buckets, setting the tone for a 92-71 win over #10 Michigan State on Friday at the Kohl Center.
Nick Boyd led the way with 29 points, 20 of which came in the first half. John Blackwell added 24 points, and Nolan Winter finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Braeden Carrington scored nine points. Austin Rapp added seven but sat for much of the second half with foul trouble.
Wisconsin never trailed in the contest. Michigan State did manage a 3-3 tie after Andrew Rhode opened the game with a quick three from the right side wing. Rhode immediately put the Badgers back on top with another triple.
The Badgers led 51-34 at the break and held off the Spartans the rest of the way. The 21-point margin of victory is the largest win over a top-10 team in program history.
It’s also Wisconsin’s second such victory this week after defeating #8 Illinois last Tuesday.
Wisconsin is now 18-7 on the season, and 10-4 in Big Ten play. They’ll travel to Columbus, OH, for a date with Ohio State next Tuesday.
