WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — If the sky looked a different color to you on Thursday morning, blame the clouds.
Those in the Wausau area may have experienced a different morning view with the sky being colored an eerie yellow orangeish sky. WAOW-TV Chief Meteorologist Justin Loew says the sky color was caused by two different layers of clouds in the atmosphere.
“These high-level clouds were probably creating a sunset kind of look high in the atmosphere. And then that yellowish or orangeish color was filtering through the low-level clouds in our area.”
He says the colored sky was seen all the way out into Minnesota. “So there were a couple of spots where the high-level clouds were a little bit thinner. And you can see that here in East Central Wisconsin and over South Eastern Minnesota. And that’s where a lot of people were seeing this orange color in the sky in these areas.”
The sky color cleared up later into the day as cloud cover became more prominent. Cloudy skies are still expected through Friday with some rain showers possible Thursday evening.
