Benjamin Feltz
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The Stevens Point man accused of stealing a Wisconsin Rapids ambulance during a patient transport, then taking the vehicle on a 40-minute joyride, will return to court next month for a competency hearing.
Benjamin Felts faces ten counts, including felony charges for recklessly endangering safety and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, after he jumped in the driver’s seat of the vehicle as paramedics were working in the back. He then took the vehicle from Wisconsin Rapids to near Pittsville, where he went off-road and got the vehicle stuck in a field.
A patient was secured in the back of the vehicle during the incident. They were not harmed, and another ambulance transported them to a local hospital after the chase was over. Feltz, who was naked at the time, eventually surrendered without further incident.
No one else was injured.
Additional charges include felony fleeing or eluding an officer and misdemeanor counts for obstructing emergency response, lewd behavior, 3rd offense OWI, and operating with a restricted license. He is jailed on a $100,000 cash bond with a competency hearing scheduled for March 30th.
He faces more than 30 years in prison on the felony counts alone
