STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Stevens Point is looking at a proposal to build a new 63-unit townhouse building near the new City Hall site.
“This is preliminary. The site has been vacant since we tore down the Edgewater Manor building with the intention of rebuilding that area,” Mayor Mike Wiza told WAOW TV.
Wiza explains that the proposal fits almost perfectly with what the city needs.
“Checking again all of the boxes that they asked for. The console, the community, the surveys have all pointed towards owner occupied, dense housing in a walkable neighborhood and this hits all of those,” says Wiza.
Victor Baeten, owner of Source Commercial Real Estate, says the townhouse is priced around $300,000, which he hopes will attract a wide range of potential buyers.
“And I think this is just new asset class that will help those whether it be the young professionals or empty nesters or anywhere in-between have a different alternative to ownership,” says Baeten.
And if approved by the city committee, they hope to start construction in early 2027 with resales in late summer to fall.
“I think this is something the city feels really positive about and that I feel positive about. We look forward to continue to work together,” says Baeten.
Another meeting will be held on March 16th, where the city committee may approve the proposal.
