STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Portage County Sheriff Mike Lucas is encouraging residents to be prepared for flooding, especially in wooded, low-lying areas near the Wisconsin River.
Lucas says as of Monday morning, the river below the Stevens Point dam was already above flood stage, and he expects things will only get worse with heavy rain expected over the next few days.
Those along Park Drive west of Plover should be prepared for floodwaters near their property, especially those in low-lying areas. Additionally, drivers should be on the lookout for flooded roads, and “turn aroudn, don’t drown,” if they do encounter water on the roadway.
A Flood Warning is in effect along the Wisconsin River at Wausau until further notice. Much of the state is also under a Flood Watch for Monday evening through Tuesday morning.
