WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Midwest Communications of Wausau is teaming up with ACE Hardware in Weston to raise funds for the Ringle tornado relief efforts through a 12-hour community cookout event on Thursday.
Everyone is invited to the ACE parking lot in Weston from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM for burgers, brats, bacon, and other cookout dishes, with a freewill donation collected for the Town of Ringle’s community relief fund. Dave Kallaway from WIFC says the event came together in a matter of hours on Monday, and didn’t take much convincing to get partners on board.
“We went to a partner that we’ve worked with a lot and said, ‘Here’s what we want to do, can you help us?’ Immediately they said ‘yes, we’ll provide the grills, we’ll provide the food, why don’t you come on out?” said Kallaway.
He expects a tailgate atmosphere throughout the day with food provided by Kwik Trip, Tower Cafe, Nueske’s Meats, Townline Market, and Zillman’s Meat Market. ACE will provide the grills and additional food items.
Kallaway says cash donations are encouraged because they offer flexibility for those in need. “They can take you in a lot of different directions [for those in need]. What they need, they can buy. That’s primarily what we are looking for at this event.”
Gift cards will also be accepted, such as to a convenience store. “Gas comes in handy for your vehicle, your chainsaw, everything that you need to clear [your property].”
WIFC, WDEZ, and 94.7 The Beast personalities will be on hand throughout the day as well, broadcasting live and providing updates.
