April 21 (Reuters) – U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Tuesday a proposal by United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby to acquire rival American Airlines was “interesting” but said he would need to do a better job of making the case for it.
Duffy told Reuters in an interview he would not prejudge any potential merger. “Is it interesting what Scott Kirby’s talking about? Of course it’s interesting,” Duffy said, adding that American does not support a tie-up.
“I suppose if Scott wants it to happen, he’s got to do a little more selling on why it’s good for the American consumer.”
