CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – The would-be Trump assassin Cole Allen got an apology from the judge overseeing his case yesterday. It’s outrageous.
Administrative Judge Zia Faruqui apologized to Allen because he was under suicide watch and in an isolation cell while being held in jail. Allen said while being questioned after the attack on the White House Correspondents Dinner that he expected to be killed during the incident. He’d clearly anticipated suicide by cop.
But Judge Faruqrui apologized to the defendant, saying, ”What am I to say to Allen that this is going to be a fair process if we’re putting him in a safe cell when he’s not supposed to be in there? At a minimum, I should be apologizing to him. We are obligated to make sure he’s taken care of. Mr. Allen, I’m sorry that things have not been the way they are supposed to.”
The judge then said that the January 6th defendants were treated better than Cole Allen. That’s off-the-rails and not true. All January 6th defendants were denied bail and were kept in isolation in Washington DC. Even those who surrendered in their hometowns were not kept there pre-trial. The process was the punishment; they were kept in DC away from their local layers. They have since been pardoned.
Mr. Allen’s pre-trial incarceration should not be intended as punishment – he hasn’t been convicted of anything yet. Prison staff decides who is and isn’t suicidal and who is or isn’t a threat to themselves. If Allen’s lawyers claim he’s being treated unfairly, he can be reevaluated by prison staff.
For Judge Faruqrui to make some comparison to the January 6th defendants – one case has nothing to do with the other – is bazaar.
Farqurui is an administrative judge for James Boesberg. He’s the judge who ordered the Trump deportation flights to be turned around, and had launched contempt proceedings against the Trump administration. That was stopped by an appeals court. Surely you are not surprised that Judge Boesberg’s administrative judge is a bleeding heart for an assassination suspect.
This reveals something you ought to know. The federal court in Washington DC rabidly anti-Trump. An apology to a Trump-assassin? Yes, that’s a symptom of blind hatred.
