STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The Stevens Point City Council is scheduled to finalize plans for a new City Hall building at 1039 Ellis Street with Miron Construction on Tuesday.
Alders will hold a special meeting at 6:00 PM in the Community Room of the Police Station on Michigan Avenue to approve the $14.8 million project. That amount includes a 10% contigency.
Miron was one of eight contractors that submitted bids for the project, and the only one that came in at under $14 million. Others included The Boston Company, SMA, and Ellis Construction. Shawano’s 8 Pine Inc submitted the high bid at $15.8 million.
If approved, construction could begin later this summer.
Tuesday’s agenda also includes an early look at the project’s projected tax impact. According to a memo from Comptroller Corey Ladick, that could run between $85 and $89 per $100K of assessed property value. Ladick notes that those numbers are very preliminary and could change as more details regarding tax base and TIF District values are finalized.
The Ellis St. building was owned by the county, but came under city control late last year as part of a land swap. That calls for the city to vacate the current City Hall site, allowing the county to upgrade and expand the courthouse.
