MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield cut the ribbon on a new $14.5 million factory and retail store for Weinbrenner Shoes, securing the company’s future in the community.
City Administrator Steve Barg says it was never a given that the company would stay in the place they’ve called home for more than 90 years. “It’s been a long process,” said Barg. “There were times during that process that we weren’t sure we were going to keep them here. They were doing their due diligence.”
Barg and former Mayor Lois TeStrake previously told WSAU News that the company fielded offers from other communities, including some in Texas, but ultimately chose to stay.

The new facility provides employees with air conditioning and double-paned windows, luxuries they didn’t have in the old facility. It also includes a retail store with a large window overlooking the factory, allowing shoppers to see the boots being made as they browse.
